"20 Years of The Charlotte Perriand Collection - The Voyager" : Cassina Celebrates 20th Anniversary of the Charlotte Perriand Collection with Exhibition

SEOUL — Cassina celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Charlotte Perriand Collection with a global exhibition showcasing never mass-produced models and previously unseen versions of iconic designs. Known for redefining modern living, Charlotte Perriand was an influential figure in design history, challenging traditional design codes and promoting a modern sensitivity to everyday life.

Throughout the 1900s, Perriand’s story intertwined with Cassina, which began re-editing her designs alongside Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret in 1964, establishing the Cassina iMaestri Collection. In 2004, the Charlotte Perriand Collection was launched in collaboration with Pernette Perriand-Barsac, her daughter and sole heir, to capture and expand the essence of her creative work.

The exhibition will be held exclusively at Cassina locations in Paris Saint-Germain, London, Lyon, Seoul, and Miami, with Seoul as the only participating city in Asia, underscoring the Korean market's influence. “Seoul is the only and the first city in Asia premièring this exhibition, and we are thrilled to announce this debut during Frieze Seoul.

This moment highlights the significance and impact of the Korean market,” said Eunice Yoon, a head of Cassina Korea. “Following our grand opening last year, we are excited to once again host a meaningful event for our Korean audiences. It is an honor for Seoul to represent Asia in this special exhibition and emphasized Cassina’s continuous efforts to show respect and appreciation for the Korean market. I hope that this exhibition will be a unique opportunity to rediscover the authenticity and value of Perriand’s humanistic philosophy and designs, expressing deep gratitude to all who appreciate her legacy.”

The exhibition features iconic pieces like the Nuage à Plots bookcase, which reflects Perriand’s approach to modular design, reissued by Cassina since 2012. This version, introduced in 2021, was developed with Pernette Perriand-Barsac.

The Tabouret Berger, inspired by a shepherd’s stool and first presented in Tokyo in 1955, will also be on display. Crafted in Canaletto walnut, natural oak, or black-stained oak, the stool’s design reflects Perriand’s elegant yet practical sensibilities. The exhibition also presents books by avant-garde modernists, archives of Perriand’s early work, a catalog of her designs, and photographs offering a glimpse into her modest personality.

These elements underscore her philosophy of solving social issues through design and improving everyday life. The Charlotte Perriand Collection continues to capture the creative heart of each project, and Cassina remains dedicated to promoting her legacy through extraordinary cultural initiatives and collaborations.
