TIPA, a private organization dedicated to the protection of intellectual property rights for the enforcement of the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights(TRIPs) and the protection of intellectual property rights, announced on the 12th that it has been selected as a private expert to assist in customs inspections of goods suspected of infringement.

TIPA stated that it will collaborate with customs to prevent international trade of goods infringing intellectual property rights.

TIPA's participation in customs inspections this time comes as the number of overseas direct purchases has sharply increased. Alongside this surge, there has been a significant rise in the influx of illegal products, including intellectual property rights-infringing goods and narcotics.

According to the KCS, the number of overseas direct purchases recently imported into the country has surged by approximately 37% over the past year, reaching a total of 131.44 million cases. Additionally, last year's numbers of detected intellectual property rights-infringing goods amounted to 643,042 cases, averaging about 12,350 cases per week.

As a private organization dedicated to the protection of intellectual property rights, TIPA will collaborate with the KCS, Incheon Airport Regional Customs, Incheon Regional Customs and Pyeongtaek Customs to assist in the inspection of intellectual property rights-infringing goods during the customs clearance process. TIPA aims to work together with customs to prevent the international trade of goods infringing intellectual property rights.

Furthermore, TIPA is taking a leading role in preventing the importation of counterfeit goods into the country by utilizing the Intellectual Property Rights(IPR) protection system called TIMS(TIPA IPR Management System), jointly developed with PinokioLab Inc. last year. This system facilitates a rapid appraisal process for goods suspected of infringing intellectual property rights, contributing to the overall effort to curb the influx of counterfeit products.

TIPA's Chairman, Nam-ki Cheong, stated, "With years of experience in intellectual property rights protection activities related to trade, TIPA, as a private organization specializing in intellectual property rights protection, is committed to supporting strong border measures by customs against intellectual property rights-infringing goods. We will continue to exert greater efforts in protecting consumers and rights holders both domestically and internationally"
