On the day of the signing ceremony, Shohei Kanazawa, Vice President, President of Asia and Latin America Region & API Solutions, Eisai Co., Ltd., and Hongbyung Ko, head of Eisai Korea, along with KMI chairman Sangho Yi, director Sungwook Ha, and other officials were present, and the MOU for dementia prevention and early diagnosis was signed and joint cooperation was pledged.

Dementia is an ailment that shows a 10% prevalence in the elderly of 65 years or older as of 2020. According to the Central Dementia Center, it is predicted to increase by 16% by 2050.

KMI has adopted Eisai’s “CogMateTM” and two companies plan to build an ecosystem for early detection of dementia and mild cognitive impairment in an attempt to create a business ecosystem model that can help individual patients and positively impact national insurance funds.

‘“CogMate” is a digital tool (non-medical device) for self-assessment of brain performance, developed and distributed by Eisai Co., Ltd. using the cognitive function test “Cogstate Brief BatteryTM” created by Cogstate, Ltd.  and it is scheduled to be imported to Korea early this year through Eisai Korea.

In relation to this, President Kanazawa said “I am happy to enter into a partnership with Korea's best medical examination center. I expect both parties will reach various accomplishments by cooperating and sharing information.”

KMI chairman Sangho Yi stated, “Early screening of dementia is an area KMI has been very interested in and we will put our best efforts into managing dementia and cognitive health by creating an early dementia screening ecosystem model and cooperation with the world's best company.”

Based on its corporate concept of “human health care (hhc)”, the global pharmaceutical company Eisai Co., Ltd., a parent company of Eisai Korea, is establishing partnerships to build various dementia prevention ecosystems and is engaged in senior care activities.

Established in 1985, the health examination center KMI is currently running health centers in regions throughout Korea, and is developing activities for the early detection of diseases, disease prevention, and improvement of citizens' health.
