(단이 신입 사원과 이야기를 나누는데…)
Don: I Haven't seen you aruond. Are you a new employee?
단: 못보던 얼굴인데. 새로 입사했어요?
Tracy: Yeah. This is my first day.
트레이시: 예. 오늘 출근 첫 날이예요.
Don: Welcome. I can help you get up to speed.
단: 환영해요. 제가 알아둘 것들을 알려들릴 게요.
Tracy: Thanks. How long have you been working here?
트레이시: 감사합니다. 여기선 얼마나 일하셨어요?
Don: Seven years.
단: 7년 됐어요.
Tracy: You must know your way around.
트레이시: 모르시는 게 없겠네요.
Don: I like to think I know my stuff.
단: 제가 하는 일은 잘 안다고 할 수 있죠.
Tracy: I'm sure you do.
트레이시: 그렇겠네요.
Don: And I'm not the only one. We have a lot of very knowledgeable workers.
단: 저만 그런 건 아니고요. 자기 일을 꿰고 있는 직원들이 많아요.
Tracy: I think I'm going to like working here.
트레이시: 여기서 즐겁게 일할 수 있을 것 같네요.
기억할만한 표현
*see (someone) around: (누구를) 정기적으로 마주치다.
"I don't know her well. I only see her around school from time to time." (난 그 여자 잘 몰라. 그냥 학교에서 가끔씩 마주쳐.)
*get (someone) up to speed: (누구에게) 필요한 정보를 알려주다.
"I'll get you up to speed after lunch today." (오늘 점심 먹고 다 얘기해줄게.)
*know (one's) stuff: 자신의 일을 잘 알다 자신이 있다.
"When it comes to math he really knows his stuff." (그 사람은 정말 수학을 잘 해.)
