[오늘의 생활영어] That's the way it goes; 별 수 없지

(Two friends are having lunch…)

Merri: I haven't talked to you for a while. How's your job?

Barbra: It's been great until yesterday. I lost out on a promotion.

Merri: Oh how did that come about?

Barbra: I don't have enough experience.

Merri: That's the way it goes.

Barbra: I know but I wanted it so much.

Merri: Keep working hard and you'll get it the next time.

Barbra: I'm thinking about looking for another job.

Merri: Why? You said you like your job. Don't run away from it.

Barbra: Maybe you're right. I do like the job.
