(코리아타운뉴스) Markets Ready for Chuseok Sale

Items range from fresh fruits to short rib sets

As Chuseok, South Korea’s equivalent to America’s Thanksgiving, draws close, Los Angeles Koreatown markets are entering its annual holiday sale season. Items on sale range from fresh fruits (apples, pears and persimmon) to cooking ingredients to snacks.

"We expect families to visit our market to prepare for Chuseok as this year, the holidays are on weekdays,” said California Market manager Yoon-ah Yoon. “We’re actually expecting a higher revenue from this sale than the American Thanksgiving.”

California Market has also added oxtail and short rib sets as its main sale items. Additionally, the market will list some items as “Totally Discounted” to offer special deals on various fresh meats and seafood.

Galleria Market in L.A. Koreatown, along with its Northridge branch, and HK Market also recently began its Chuseok sale. Seasoned asters, brackens and bellflowers are on sale for just $0.69 per pound, while a pound of marinated bulgogi is also sold for just $4.99. Two pounds of taro is on sale for $0.99 and a box of grapes is listed at $9.99.

Galleria Food Wholesale Store is presenting different gifts to customers based on how much they spend per visit. Customers will receive a free bag of rice (15 pounds) for spending more than $100. Those who spend between $80 and $99.99 will receive a box of mooncake, while three Tilapias are given for a purchase of between $50 and $79.99.

At Hannam Chain, Fuji apples and Korean pears are the main gift sets. Ingredients for fish cakes are on sale for $1.49. Marinated short ribs are going for $7.49 per pound.
